The Director, Brand Management leads the P&L and strategy development for a leading brand in the North America Food Business Unit (categories in Food include cookware, bakeware, cutlery, canning, vacuum sealing, food and pantry storage). He/she brings 10+ years of Brand Management and deep innovation experience, understands how to drive social marketing and support omni-channel sales growth, and has experience driving brands with a longer repurchase cycle.
As a member of food brand management leadership, the Brand Director will be responsible for the development of brand positioning and go-to-market sales and communication strategies, grounded in deep consumer, customer, product and market understanding. The Brand Director should be a broad business leader and must work effectively across cross-functional teams, while influencing across the organization. The Brand Director is responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining high-performance brand management talent.
Lead brand strategy, including brand positioning, value/pricing proposition and winning aspiration compared to competition.
Drive P&L through strong financial management, improved profitability targets, cost cutting (when appropriate) and complexity reduction.
Drive consumer insights by understanding key equities, unmet needs and evolving consumer trends and requirements.
Develop and train brand team laying the foundation for future leadership within Newell.
Identify and develop strong, high impact product innovation by identifying where to play, what to offer, key feature/benefit claims and competitive and white space understanding.
Drive impactful brand communication understanding and define the brand personality, key messaging vehicles (on-line and traditional) and brand image guidelines.
Create effective customer strategies including go-to-market requirements, good/better/best offerings, omni-channel approach to selling and key customer and shopper needs.
Develop effective promotional strategies including off-shelf events, key merchandising requirements, on-line promotions, consumer price incentives and impactful packaging graphics/messaging.
Work across the business units with all key functions – Sales, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Distribution, Customer Service, IT, Finance, HR, Legal – as well as centralized support teams to drive profitable sales.
A four-year college degree, MBA preferred.
10+ years of brand management experience in consumer packaged goods. Corded electric, cookware or cutlery experience highly preferred.
Proven ability to translate consumer insights into powerful brand strategies, product innovation and plans. Experience managing product lifecycle/product portfolios and demonstrated track record in breakthrough innovations and high-impact product renovations.
Demonstrated evidence of translating business priorities into brand objectives, strategies and plans. Understands how to effectively inspire and delight consumers through product performance, pricing and positioning.
Successful management of P&L, including how to price product to derive maximum value, how to reduce unwanted costs, managing inventory effectively, balancing financial risks, maximizing marketing and promotion expense and forecasting future performance.
Proven ability to lead a team, providing effective training and development to achieve successful results.
Evidence of being a brand steward, building and implementing brand architecture and driving brand value across all consumer channels.
Experience developing and implementing clear go-to-market strategies to build demand, drive traffic, promote shopper loyalty and create deep engagement.
Comprehensive understanding and experience developing digital and social marketing campaigns with proven reach and impact.
Deep experience gleaning consumer insights and leveraging analytics of primary and secondary research, emerging trends, POS results and competitor/category actions to drive leadership brand sales.
Experience conducting business reviews and understanding return on investments.
Ability to develop a thoughtful strategy and then bring it alive across all touch points.
Understanding of how choices made during product innovation development impact manufacturing, sourcing decisions and cost.
Ability to relocate to Atlanta area
